Dear Neighbor,

Columbus families paint their homes, mow their laws, take out the trash, watch out for their neighbors, and care about the look and feel of their entire neighborhood. They take pride in their streets. Our neighborhoods are the soul of our City and we expect them to be safe, clean, and free of blight. That's what the Neighborhood Pride initiative is all about.

We are committed to working with residents, neighborhood associations, and local businesses to build better neighborhoods. During the coming months, we will begin sending teams from City departments into our neighborhoods to clean alleys and streets, tend to our parks, and check and repair street lights. They will also be identifying safety and health hazards, finding code problems, and helping families find answers and resources to fix those problems. It will take time, but, street by street, block by block, this will mean safer, cleaner neighborhoods across the City.

We are also asking you to do your part. Whether you own your home, rent it, or are a landlord, look around. Does your home add to the unique character of your neighborhood? Can you lend a hand to a neighbor? By working together we can significantly improve our homes and positively impact our residential neighborhoods, and at the same time help out our older citizens and others on fixed incomes stay in their homes.

Our City has never done anything like this before, but it’s a good step toward building stronger neighborhoods for the future.
