Division of Water Brief Security Statement 10-22-01

Understandably, the Division of Water has received many inquiries recently regarding the security of our drinking water. First it must be realized public water systems were established, designed and improved since the late 1800's to protect the public health from waterborne disease. There are well-established monitoring, security, notification and response procedures constantly in place to protect the water supply, treatment and distribution system from the daily threats of accidental, natural or purposeful disruption. In light of the current situation, our monitoring and security procedures have been substantially increased to protect the water supply from the specific threats associated with terrorism.
