- Columbus Dedicates City’s First Large Scale Solar Energy System
The Columbus Division of Fleet Management has covered its roof with 2,650 solar panels expected to produce almost half of the building’s electricity needs. The 240-watt panels installed at 4211 Groves Road contain enough electricity to power 85 homes for a year and reduce of greenhouse gas emissions by 566 tons.

- Columbus Fire and Trauma Surgeons Discuss Gun Violence
Today, first responders and trauma surgeons joined together demanding Congress take action to enact common sense gun reform. The group convened in support of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns National Day to Demand Action. This is part of both the largest gun violence advocacy event and the largest field campaign in U.S. history to address gun reform.

- 2013 Capital Improvements Budget Includes Unprecedented Investment in Resurfacing
Mayor Michael B. Coleman and City Council members announced the proposed 2013 City of Columbus Capital Improvements Budget, which includes a combined $65 million for resurfacing over the next two years: a record $32 million this year plus $33 million in 2014. The proposal, which consists of $379 million in new funding for neighborhood projects, also includes $4.7 million for the Maryland Swimming Pool on the Near East Side. The Maryland pool will be transformed into a state-of-the-art swimming attraction with new slides, spray fountains and other modern amenities in time for the 2014 swimming season.

Mayor Michael B. Coleman delivered his 14th State of the City Address  February 21 at South High School, calling for residents to come together united in the struggle for quality education for all Columbus children.

Coleman today presented his proposed 2013 General Operating Fund budget to City Council, an investment blueprint that would further the goals of safe neighborhoods, job creation and an efficient government while setting aside millions for both long-term and short-term reserve funds.

- Mayor Coleman to Receive Briefing on Education and the Community
Mayor Michael B. Coleman, City Council President Andrew J. Ginther and Columbus Education Advisor Eric D. Fingerhut will participate in a discussion about important education opportunities outside the school district walls that improve student achievement.
